About Us
Pia is the UK’s leading independent accessible format provider. We specialise in producing accessible print formats including braille, large print, audio transcript, easy read and tactile labels, as well as providing project management and everything else an organisation will require, to meet the needs of print impaired individuals.
We pride ourselves on our experience, customer focused service and turnaround. Pia recognises that its success is down to its people. Following a period of significant growth, Pia has redesigned its organisational structure. The new structure has resulted in the creation of a number of additional people management roles to help support the continued growth of Pia and its people.
We have on offer a competitive salary, great benefits such as flexible working, tea, coffee and biscuits to keep you going and 39 day’s annual leave per year (including bank holidays).
The Role
As our Development Manager, you will be at the heart of our project delivery, acting as the central force that keeps our development initiatives running smoothly. You will coordinate daily activities, guide the team and maintain clear communication with everyone involved, from team members to external suppliers. Your focus will be on practical execution such as tracking progress, identifying risks and ensuring we meet our project goals efficiently and effectively.
One of the most critical parts of this role will be your direct support to the Head of Operations in planning resources and prioritising workloads. You won't just be observing, you'll be actively involved in the operational management of Pia's technological assets and systems, ensuring our projects have a solid foundation to build upon. This is a hands-on role where your organisational skills will directly enable the team to do their best work.
In addition to project coordination, you’ll play a key part in fostering our team culture. You will be a coach and a guide, providing the support and encouragement that helps team members develop and perform. For the right person, this role is a fantastic opportunity to deepen your leadership and project management skills in a supportive, value-driven environment where your contributions have a visible impact.
What We’re Looking For
We’re searching for a pragmatic and supportive leader with experience in coordinating projects and a talent for bringing people together. You might have a formal ILM qualification, or you’ve gained equivalent, practical experience leading and coordinating in a fast-paced environment. You're someone who thrives on organising chaos, managing daily priorities with a cool head and resolving day-to-day challenges quickly and effectively.
You’ll be a confident communicator who enjoys working with a diverse group of people, from colleagues and stakeholders to external contractors. You're excited by the prospect of rolling up your sleeves to maintain project documentation, track risks, and ensure nothing slips through the cracks. Your strong problem-solving skills are matched by your desire to support and motivate those around you.
Because we’re a team that lives by our values, you’ll need to be a true role model demonstrating integrity, fairness, and a genuine commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion in everything you do. We need someone who is adaptable, takes personal responsibility, and brings a positive, can-do attitude even when faced with setbacks. A sense of humour and a collaborative spirit are essential.
What Excites You
Making an Impact: You get a buzz from seeing a project run smoothly because of the coordination and support you provide. You love being the person the team relies on to keep things on track and remove obstacles.
Developing People: You’re genuinely motivated by guiding and encouraging team members. Seeing your colleagues grow in their roles and succeed because of your support is a huge source of satisfaction for you.
Practical Problem-Solving: You enjoy the daily puzzle of managing priorities and resources. The challenge of a fast-paced environment, where no two days are the same and your problem-solving skills are put to the test, is what keeps you engaged.
Collaborative Culture: You thrive in an atmosphere of mutual support and professionalism. The opportunity to contribute to business improvement and work towards a common purpose with a team that values respect and high-quality work is deeply appealing.
Values-Led Work: You are excited to work for an organisation where promoting EDI and adhering to a strong promise isn't just a policy, but a daily practice you can actively champion and be proud of.
